December 16 is the day of remembrance of the outstanding Azerbaijani musician, composer, pianist, founder of the jazz-mugam genre, an honorable Azerbaijani artist, winner of the Azerbaijani State Prize VAGIF MUSTAFAZADE (16.03.1940 - 16.12.1979).
Vagif Mustafazade was not only one of the outstanding jazz pianists of the twentieth century, but also led the Orero ensemble, the Caucasus jazz trio, the female vocal and instrumental ensembles Layli and Seville, the instrumental ensemble "Mugam". He was a winner of international jazz competitions and festivals ("Tallin-66", "Tbilisi-78", "Monte-Carlo").
Vagif Mustafazade successfully synthesized jazz music with an ancient Azerbaijani mugam, having deep roots, thus adding unique samples of jazz mugam to the treasure of world musical pearls. He is the author of a concert for a piano with a symphonic orchestra, the symphony "Mugam" (incomplete), a number of jazz compositions and plays.
Vagif Mustafazade lived a short but meaningful life. Breathtaking melodies and rhythms have enriched our national musical heritage and made it famous all over the world.
The name and creativity of Vagif Mustafazade live on and will live forever.
This morning, employees of the State Museum of Music Culture of Azerbaijan and a branch of the Museum, Vagif Mustafazade House Museum visited his grave.
On the occasion of the Memorial Day, the last joint event with the State Museum of Music Culture of Azerbaijan was held at the 11-year-old Vagif Mustafazade Children's Art School No. 2 named after Vagif Mustafazade. The principal of the school, a well-deserved artist Akif Suleimanbeili, gave an opening speech. Then, the director of the State Museum of Music Culture of Azerbaijan, a candidate for the arts, a well-deserved worker of culture Alla Bairamova, head of the museum, the House of Museum of Vagif Mustafazade Afag Aliyeva, performed.
At the event, the bust of the mother of Vagif Mustafazade Zivar Aliyeva, who worked as a teacher in a music school for many years, was opened, with memories of her colleagues Mrs. Zivar performed. The event continued with a concert dedicated to the memory of Vagif Mustafazade performed by Gulsum Khanum Eldarova, Vusala Aydamirov, Ibrahim Babaev, Javid Azizov, Hidayata Sadykhbeili, the vocal ensemble "Seville" and students of the music school.
