13 September 2021

September 13 is the birthday of Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951), Austrian and American composer, founder of dodecaphone equipment. This technique was actively interested in leading Azerbaijani composer Karaev (1918-1982). He addressed it as one of the very first in the Soviet Union, used it in such works as the Third Symphony, Violin Concert. For this innovation, he was criticized, and Tikhon Khrennikov called him "the head of Soviet dodecathonism".
The State Museum of Music Culture of Azerbaijan stores the author's notebook of flute improvisation from Karaev's music to the play "Hamlet" and other manuscripts also in dodecaphone technique.
Kara Abulfazovich also translated from German dodecophony textbooks. These translations are stored in the Russian state archive of literature and art (Moscow).
