OPERA AYNA by Gara Garayev and Jovdet Hajiyev

The famous composer Gara Garayev's first opera Ayna in four acts, was written together with Jovdat Hajiyev in 1940. That time both of them were students of Professor Anatoly Alexandrov in Composition theory class at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.
The sources wrongly mention that the opera was written in 1941, but the manuscript of the opera score kept in the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan and displayed in one of its branches, the Gara Garayev Museum, has the inscription on the last page "The end of the opera", signatures of the both authors, and the date - March 15, 1940. The opera's scenary takes place in Karabakh. Libretto tells about the young Azerbaijani people - girl, carpet weaver, Àyna, her beloved, farm tractor driver, Ayaz, - about Ayna's family heirloom, a precious Karabakh carpet, etc. Could the opera libretto's authors and composers assume, that in early 1990s Karabakh would be occupied by the Armenian armed forces and all the Azerbaijanis would be crueltly killed or ousted from the land of their ancestors?!?
