Musical Instruments of Islamic World

Dedicated to the IVth Islamic Solidarity Sports Games taken place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May 2017, the temporary exhibition Musical Instruments of Islamic World was organized by the Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan. Exhibition was launched on May 12. Musical instruments of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Iraq, Arab Emirates, Turkey, Morocco, Qatar, and Egypt together with those of Azerbaijan were demonstrated. Exhibition was accompanied with live music performed by the Museum’s Old Musical Instruments Ensemble, by the group Shalu from Bushehr city (Southwest of Iran), music played by the Iraqi students, songs and dances performed by the representatives of the Uyghur ethic Islamic minority from China, and Indonesian songs and dances performed by the local students of Azerbaijan University of Languages. The majority of exhibited musical instruments are the items of the Museum collections, but some were kindly provided for this purpose by some embassies of Islamic countries in Azerbaijan.
