The 21st General Conference of ICOM (International Council of Museums)

From 20 to 23 August, in Vienna (Austria) there took place the 21st General Conference of ICOM (International Council of Museums) under the name “Museums and Universal Heritage”. The conference was attended by 2000 participants from 99 countries. The Azerbaijan delegation was represented at the Conference by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva, Chairwoman of Azerbaijan National Committee of ICOM, Director of the State Museum of Azerbaijan Carpet and Applied Art Roya Tagiyeva, Director of the State Museum of Azerbaijan Musical Culture Alla Bayramova, Head of this Museum’s Audio Records Department Rugiyya Ismayilova and others.

Being concurrently a member of the International Committee of Musical Instrument Museums, Alla Bayramova participated in meetings of this committee. These meetings were held in two Vienna museums: in one of the palaces of Art Museum, where the Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments is housed, and Technical Museum keeping the rich collection of musical instruments.

Among the attractions arisen participants’ big interest were Rohrau, the world-famed composer Joseph Haydn’s birth-place and his memorial museum in Eisenstadt where he spent his most fruitful and creative years.

During the conference, participants from different countries exchanged their views and experience with each other.

At the same time, delegates of the museum popularized their museum’s collection. They presented CDs, music books, souvenirs and other promotion products to the conference participants. The music book “Piano pieces by Azerbaijani composers” published by the museum were presented to pianists Eugenie Russo and Richard Fuller.
