Greetings to the State Museum of Azerbaijani Musical Culture

Greetings to the State Museum of Azerbaijani Musical Culture on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary and International Museum Day 2007 Celebrations of the theme "Museums and Universal Heritage"

Alissandra Cummins, President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)

As President of the International Council of Museums, it is with great pleasure that I salute ICOM-Azerbaijan and today, in particular, the State Museum of Azerbaijani Musical Culture and its director Alla Bayramova, on the occasion of its 4Oth anniversary being celebrated during International Museum Day.

We congratulate the State Museum of Azerbaijani Musical Culture on its new trilingual website being presented at this year's International Museum Day celebration. Ensuring access to culturally diverse constituencies of, for example, the publications and recordings of heretofore unknown musical manuscripts, is an excellent initiative. This museum work is a perfect example of how the protection of cultural diversity and universal heritage go hand in hand.

To recognise within music a universal expression of all humanity is to celebrate music in all its diverse manifestations throughout the world. Azerbaijan has taken the collective responsibility for universal heritage to a new level. Hopefully, new "Universal Heritage Museum Partnerships" will spring from such energy and creativity. The next issue of ICOM News will further explore music as an expression of Universal Heritage and the ICOM General Conference will be an excellent occasion to discuss music and listen to it! I look forward to seeing you there.

I take this opportunity to warmly congratulate museum colleagues in the music museum on your 40th anniversary and wish all museum colleagues a very happy International Museum Day 2007!
