Uzeyir Hajibeyov (18.09.1885-23.11.1948) “Lezginka” (1932) A composer, musicologist, teacher. The founder of professional music and national opera in Azerbaijan. People's Artist of USSR (1938), Laureate of USSR State Awards (1941, 1946). Academician, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Union of Composers in 1938-1948, rector of the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire (1928-1929, 1939-1948). Author of 7 operas, including "Leili & Mejnun" (1908) and "Koroglu" (1937), three musical comedies, cantatas, overtures, romances and songs, hymn of the Azerbaijan Republic (1918).
