Composer, People's Artist of USSR (1959), Laureate of USSR State Awards (1946, 1948), Academician (1959). Rector of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1949-1953). In 1952-1973 was Chairman of Azerbaijan Composers Union, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the USSR Composers Union (1974-1982). Author of ballets "Seven Beauties" (1952) and "Thunder roads” (1958), three symphonies, "Leili and Majnun" symphonic poem, "Vietnam" suite (1955), "Don Quijote" symphonic qravurs (1960), 24 preluds for piano, sonata for violin & piano.
