Today is memorable with several events in Azerbaijan calendar. A few of them we would like to bring to your attention.
The birthday of Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev (1823-1924) of the famous Azerbaijani millionaire, craftsman, Real State Advisor of the Russian Empire, founder of the first girls' school in the Muslim East (Tagiyev's Girls' School) is celebrated.
Charity events of Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev are forever engraved in the memory of the people. Haji, who appreciated the importance of the theater in the enlightenment of the people, the cultural level and the development of the native language, built the first theater building in Azerbaijan 140 years ago, in 1883 at the expense of his own money, the opening of the theater was an important event in the history of national culture: Azerbaijani troops achieved the stage they had long awaited. 115 years ago, on 25 (12), January 1908, the premiere of the first national Azerbaijani opera "Leyli and Majnun", written by Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of modern professional music art of Azerbaijan, was successfully held in 1907, at the Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev Theater in Baku. This opera was not only the first Azerbaijani opera, but also the first opera in the whole Muslim East. This work, created on the basis of the classic love legend, popular in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, is considered to be one of the pearls of Azerbaijani culture.
H.Z.Tagiyev's exceptional services have been involved in the preparation of national personnel. At his own expense, he made students study in Europe and in various Russian universities. Among those who received her help, it is possible to include Shovkat Mammadova, the first professional female singer, opera artist, theater figure, USSR People's Arist, Shovkat Mammedova, who studied in Italy with her financial support.
H.Z.Tagiyev opened the first educational school for Muslim girls. This opened school was the first secular school for girls in the Muslim East. One of the achievements of the Girls' School, a turning point in the history of education and enlightenment of our society, was Sona khanim Akhundova, the mother of our outstanding composer Gara Garayev. H.Z.Tagiyev presented Sona Akhundova the book "Quran" as a gift for graduating that school with excellent prices.
