"GUEST PERFORMERS" - YMA SUMAC IN BAKU

In the "GUEST PERFORMERS" section, we present materials available at the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan to the famous Peruvian and American singer Yma Sumac ( Soila Auqusta İmperatris Çavvari del Kastilyo: 13.09.1922-01.11.2008).
In the 1960s, Yma Sumac performed in the world's most famous concert halls, and at that time was the "honoured ambassador" of almost little-known Peruvian music in the world. Named the "The Inca Princess" and "Oath Goddess" by her fans, Yma Sumac was a bright and exotic singer who combined jazz with Oceanian, African and South American music. She had 5 octaves. The stage name from Quechuan language means "how beautiful".
The world tour began in the Soviet Union in 1961 after the VI World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow. At that time, Yma Sumac performed for 6 months in many cities of the USSR, as well as in Baku.
