April, 17 is the birthday of Zulfugar Hajibeyov (1884-1950)
Zulfugar Abdulhuseyn oglu Hajibeyov was a prominent Azerbaijani composer, one of the founders of the Azerbaijan State Theatre of Musical Comedy.
In this regard, The State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan dedicates this page to him and presents some of the archive materials.
Zulfugar Hajibeyov played an important role in the creation of the first professional music forms on the basis of national folklore.
His best known works are Fifty-year-old Youngster (1910), Eleven-year-old Woman (1911), Married Bachelor (1912), mugam opera Ashig Garib (1916).
With his son Niyazi, Hajibeyov wrote the music for one of the first sound films of Azerbaijan, Almaz, in 1935 on the basis of J. Jabbarli's play.
Zulfugar Hajibeyov's contribution to the development of Azerbaijani music culture was highly praised. He was awarded Honoured Art Worker of Azerbaijan in 1943 and the Order of the Badge of Honour in 1946 for his productive work in the field of art.
