Memory: Vagif Mustafazade
(16.03.1940 - 16.12.1979)

December 16 is the day of memory of the prominent Azerbaijani musician, composer, pianist, founder of the direction of jazz mugam, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, winner of the Azerbaijan State Prize Vagif Mustafazade.
Vagif Mustafazade was one of the great jazz pianists of the twentieth century. During his activity he was the founder of the jazz trio “Caucasus”, the female vocal instrumental ensembles “Leili” and “Sevil”, instrumental ensemble “Mugam”, and the music director of the vocal instrumental ensemble “Orera”. He was a laureate of international jazz competitions and festivals (“Tallinn-66”, “Tbilisi-78”, “Monte-Carlo”).
For the first time, Mustafazade made a synthesis of Azerbaijani mugam, which takes its roots from the depths of centuries, and jazz, while giving the treasurer of world music unique works of jazz mugam.
Vagif Mustafazade - author of the concert for piano and symphony orchestra, symphony “Mugam” (unfinished) and a number of compositions and plays.
Vagif Mustafazade lived a short but very bright life. His beautiful music enriched Azerbaijan's musical heritage even more and glorified the world. The name and all the creativity of Vagif Mustafazade will always live in our hearts!
On July 28, 1989, a museum was created - an apartment in the house where Vagif Mustafazadeh lived and created. Since 1994, this museum has received the status of a branch of the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan. At the museum located at Icheri Sheher, Vagif Mustafazade str., 4, photo materials, various documents, personal items and much more related to the life and activities of Vagif Mustafazade.
The head of the museum-apartment Vagif Mustafazade is his cousin - Afag Aliyeva. Afag Aliyeva is also the organizer and leader of the Vagif Mustafazade cultural and charity fund.
