20th anniversary of the tragedy of January 20

On January 18, 2010, in the Azerbaijan State Museum of Musical Culture, an event, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the tragedy of January 20, was held. The director of the museum, the honored arts worker, Ph.D. in History of Arts, Alla Bayramova addressed the audience with the opening remarks. “Baku – 90” symphony written by the composer, the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Azer Rzayev, was performed. Then the senior professor of Baku Music Academy, the honored arts worker, Kamala Aleskerli made a speech – “ The Tragedy of January 20 in the Works of Azeri Composers “. Oktay Novruzbeyli, the father of Agabek Novruzbeyli, the victim of the January tragedy, addressed the audience and shared the materials about his son with the guests. The event program included the students of the music school affiliated with the Cultural Center of the National Defense Ministry. They performed “ Nocturne in e-minor” and “Nocturne in B-major” by Chopin, “Elegy” by Rashid Shafag, “Devotion” by Ilham Abdullayev, and “Bayati-Shiraz” mugam. The participants included the museum personnel, the teachers and students of the music school, the students of Baku Higher Marine College, and the media.
